Amazon announced on Thursday they will raise the price of their Prime service from $119 to $139 per year, the first price increase for the service since 2018. The nearly 17% increase will affect monthly membership price as well, bumping it from $12.99 to $13.99. The company said the price change will start on Feb. 18th for new customers, while existing customers will see the increase after March 25th.
The price increase comes on the back of ongoing supply chain disruptions and labor constraints, but also as part of the increased price for keeping Prime members renewing their membership with 2 day shipping, entertainment access, and other perks. The membership program is a driving growth factor for Amazon's core business as members spend more than non-members.
