BMW is redirecting its attention back to solid-state battery technology. Through a partnership with Solid Power, the automaker (and Ford in a separate deal with Solid Power) will try to bring the previously unrealized battery tech to market.
Training and Tests. The partnership will not produce anything for consumers yet. BMW engineers will learn from Solid Power, and later this year the battery company will send solid-state batteries to BMW for testing. BMW's 2025 Nueu Klasse EVs will not use solid-state batteries, but instead feature upgraded lithium-ion that offers a 20% energy density improvement.
