Per a previously filed petition, California has received a waiver allowing the setting of custom air-pollution limits. The desired limits are stricter than the EPA's emissions standards for passenger cars and trucks. The waiver expired under the previous administration, but has been renewed under Biden.
Picking sides. With the support of the waiver primarily coming from Democratic administrations, automakers are also voicing divided opinions. Ford, Honda, BMW, Volvo, and Volkswagen have supported the waiver, with GM and Nissan siding against the stricter standards.
Telling it like it is - With so many states following California’s lead, it seems the EPA should be asking them for a waiver.
