Carvana Launches Marketplace For Dealers

Online used-vehicle retailer, Carvana, has invited 3rd party dealers to use their site to list vehicles along with Carvana's own certified vehicles. Carvana CEO, Ernie Garcia, declined to provide details about the program in response to analysts' questions, but reactions to the invitations have been mixed. Some dealerships with existing online commerce options see no need in accepting the invitation despite Carvana's well-developed digital infrastructure, while invitees like car rental company, Hertz, are taking advantage of a new way to move their used cars at a time when prices are their highest.

Analysts say the program may provide means for the retailer to pump up their inventory and give consumers access to a wider selection. Carvana has been careful with the roll-out of the program to protect its reputation while leveraging consumer trust for third-party dealers despite the risk of third-party transactions causing an issue for consumers.

Telling it like it is - You can’t buy customer trust, but apparently Carvana will rent you some.
