China. The Chinese market likes EVs and has demonstrated that when cheap options are available, they sell. EV maker Nezha doubled its sales in 2022 to surpass the more established and more pricey NIO (despite NIO increasing sales by 34%). Both companies and their SUV or Sedan options were outsold by the budget EV, Hongguang Mini.
By 2050, China will have such cheap EV options you'll have to bring your own 9-volt to start it.
Shanghai. Following a surge in orders, Tesla says it will ramp up production at its gigafactory to 20K units a week. The previous 1-month production high was over 80K in September, but declined following reduced demand (which Musk contests). Tesla's recent price cuts have driven demand up in its most profitable market.
