Earthquake Temporarily Shuts Down Toyota

Nearly three weeks after a suspected cyber attack shut down domestic factory production for a day, Toyota announced it would shut down most of its plants in Japan for several days next week. A magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit eastern Japan Wednesday, leading to parts shortages from some suppliers. Toyota did not name affected companies, but Renesas Electronics Corp said separately that its plants in the area wouldn't be back to full capacity until Wednesday.

Insult to injury? One week ago today, the company announced a production cut for Q2. News of the factory idles might reduce production by an additional 25,000 to 35,000 vehicles.

Telling it like it is - This reduction leaves Toyota’s planned output for 2022 at nearly 11M vehicles. If they need a long weekend to shake off the blows we say they’ve earned it.
