In a lawsuit against the Napelton Automotive Group, the Federal Trade Commission and the State of Illinois reported that the dealer group was attaching "junk charges" to consumer bills and practicing discriminatory lending practices. Napleton will pay $10M to settle the lawsuit and will be required to establish a comprehensive fair lending program.
The Facts. The suit found that 83% of buyers paid junk fees for add-ons. Often these add-ons were added deceptively or without customer authorization. According to the complaint, black customers paid more interest than white customers—approximately $190 more in interest and $99 more for similar junk add-ons.
