Our team watches plenty of Tomi's calls, and the ones we end up celebrating are the calls where he and a dealer find common ground on what a customer actually needs. The tense calls get the clicks. The productive ones show where this could go: dealers treating consumer advocates as people to work with, which ultimately helps the customer.
Tomi was a successful F&I manager at the time, averaging about $3,000 a deal. That day, eight finance customers sat down in his office, and every one of them said no to everything he offered. Each said some version of "I hate buying cars." He realized that no matter how well he played the system, he would never fix it from the inside.
Federal regulators gave Zoox a two-year exemption to run up to 2,500 of its steering-wheel-free shuttles a year, and paid rides opened to the public in Las Vegas on August 10. Ten days later, Nevada approved Tesla, Uber and Waymo to run commercial robotaxi service across Clark County. Tesla's ceiling jumped from an interim permit for 10 vehicles to as many as 5,000 over the next 12 months.

One of our team members ran a pizza place right as ordering shifted from the phone to online. People would call in while they were placing an online order, just to explain the parts they couldn't figure out on the website. Wild days. Phones do all sorts of things, and the conversation that matters most is often happening somewhere you aren't looking.
On today's episode, Paul made the point that you don't need a year with these tools for them to change your work. Ninety days in, they've already changed how much you get done and how you think through problems. Losing them overnight wrecks your flow.
We've met dealers who would hear out a BYD rep, dealers who would throw one out, and dealers who would help them find real estate across the street so they could have a new rival to beat every day. In the U.S., that's still a hypothetical. In France, it's a real decision, because BYD already has 14 models on sale there and plans to reach 200 French dealers by the end of 2026.
