Mastering ChatGPT

ChatGPT has been a blazing hot topic since its release in November 2022, and if you haven’t tried it yet, you could really be missing out.

Diving a bit deeper, GPT is an AI that’s adept at understanding and creating human language. Think of it as a smart language assistant. Technically, it’s a language model. Picture this: you’re drafting an email, and the system predicts what you’re about to type – that’s GPT in action.

From generating creative content for marketing to knocking out dull busy work, ChatGPT offers plenty of exciting possibilities for dealerships and the auto industry like saving time, fighting creative block, and improving customer communication. 🦾🤖

If you don’t already know…

  • ChatGPT is an interactive, user-friendly AI language model, kinda like Siri or Alexa, but way smarter and more versatile.
  • GPT stands for "Generative Pre-training Transformer” meaning that it can create new content from a vast set of data (like the internet).

📝 A Simple Guide for Beginners:

If you’re a total newb, you’ll need just two things to use ChatGPT: an OpenAI account and access to their website on your desktop or app (now available on Android too).

What’s it gonna cost me? OpenAI has made ChatGPT free to use but it has some limitations including reduced capacity during peak times and an 8K word limit. OpenAI recently introduced a subscription plan called ChatGPT Plus for a $20 monthly fee and offers additional benefits, such as faster response times, priority access to new features, and a 64K word limit.

GPT-3, 3.5, 4? What’s the difference?
The numbers that come after GPT simply refer to the model version number. GPT-4 is the latest version, and it’s like, super smart. It can even pass the bar exam.

👷 Prompt Engineering: Crafting effective prompts is the key to unlocking ChatGPT's full potential. To get the most out of the brilliant bot, it’s important to be specific, provide context, and use natural language.

Tips for Crafting Effective Prompts:

  • Use keywords and phrases that are relevant to the topic you are writing about.
  • Provide as much context as possible.
  • Be specific and clear.
  • Reference examples to guide the tone. For example, “Write ad copy for a marketing and PR agency in a Seuss-style voice.”
  • Experiment with different prompts to see what works best.
  • When in doubt, let ChatGPT generate its own prompts! Use prompts like: “You are ChatGPT, OpenAI’s advanced language model. Today, your job is to generate prompts for ChatGPT. Can you generate the best prompts on ways to…”

Helpful prompt terms:

Tone (formal, casual, fire-breathing angry)

Format (essay, bullet points, written backward)

Objective (inform, engage, sell more cars)

Language (Spanish, French, Pig Latin, Pirate)

Act as (expert, critic, someone who really really likes me).

🌟 Examples of Benefits for Car Dealers:

➡️ Content Creation: From goofy tweets to structured ad copy, ChatGPT can provide content that helps drive engagement and sales. Use prompts like:

  • Create a list of engaging Instagram posts for my car dealership.
  • Write 10 alternative titles for [your draft title].
  • Give me 5 funny tweets about working at a dealership

➡️ Feedback: ChatGPT can make responding to customer reviews and emails a breeze.

  • Write a response to a user who left “XYZ” review on our dealership.
  • Here’s an email from HR telling me that a Nespresso machine does not qualify as a home office expense. Please write a polite but assertive rebuttal.

➡️ Bye Bye, Busy Work: Dealers can delegate many of those snoozeville tasks to the AI sidekick like summarizing documents, transcribing meetings, or even writing code to help streamline operations.

  • I’m going to paste a transcript of a meeting. Please generate detailed meeting notes using bullet points.(It’s really good at summarizing or writing notes).
  • Break down a larger task into smaller, manageable tasks and tackle them one at a time.
  • Here are the KPIs for my team. Please generate an easy to understand presentation about how we can achieve them. (Or, please rewrite them in the form of a bluegrass song. Or, write a haiku about them. And so on.

🚨 Pitfalls and Limitations:

  • While ChatGPT is impressive, it's not infallible. It does have the potential for misinformation and biased perspectives.
  • Emotional nuance is unsurprisingly a challenge for ChatGPT (though, to be fair, humans struggle with it too).
  • The best practice is to always review its work and apply a personal touch to its output.
