Motor Morsels: Mazda, Genesis, Ample, Ford, and Lamborghini

Mazda ✌️

Mazda discontinued the MX-30 EV in the US for the 2024 model year, marking the second time the model has been killed off after selling only 66 units in 2023.

The model's cancellation means Mazda will have no electric vehicle offerings in the US despite a future EV sales target of 25-40% by 2030. Critics blame the vehicle's high price and limited range for its poor sales.

Genesis 🏪

The luxury automaker Genesis has debuted its sixth standalone retail facility in Atlanta, Georgia. The space has an open floor plan and a dedicated service area.

The all-electric-by-2030 brand also contributed $20K to local STEAM education through the Chamblee Boys & Girls Club.

Ample 🔋

Giphy/Cartoon Network

Ample, a Northern California startup, is partnering with Mitsubishi Fuso to test battery-swapping stations for electric vehicles. With a five-minute swap time, the stations could offer an alternative to traditional charging, especially for businesses with large EV fleets.

Ample's stations take three days to set up and, with time, aim to cost the same as traditional gas station visits.

Ford 🤔

CEO Jim Farley confirmed Ford's plans to expand its hybrid vehicle options after widening losses on its EV unit.

This strategy aligns more closely with Toyota, assuring Ford's EV ramp-up will continue, but may take longer than anticipated.

Lamborghini 🎈

Lamborghini may reach 10,000 sales this year. Currently, revenue is up 6.7% to €1.42B, with operating income increasing 7.2% to €456M in H1. The success is attributed to the popular Urus SUV.

The company still plans to invest €1.9B in hybrid and electric cars, including launching its first fully-electric model in 2028.
