Nissan announced Thursday they will invest $500 million in its Canton, Miss assembly plant in order to transform the plant into a "Center for EV manufacturing and technology". The plan will begin EV production in 2025 starting with 2 sedan-like new vehicles, a Nissan model and an Infiniti. Details about the vehicles have not yet been revealed. One Nissan dealer shared a sense of shock, "Why in the world would Nissan be spending their limited R&D dollars developing sedans, when their most important market is craving SUVs?" the unidentified dealer said.
Hopes and dreams? The current challenge Nissan has their eyes on is the American EV market. The Japanese automaker hopes to have 40% of their US sales battery only by 2030, with only 1.5% of their US sales last year attributed to their sole electric product, the Leaf.
Telling it like it is - The auto industry evolves by the minute, will 2 cars designed today matter at all in 3 years?
