Production: Toyota, Fisker, Tesla

Toyota's January production was up 8.8% year over year despite lingering chip challenges. The 689K vehicles produced was short of its target of 700K but is the first YOY production growth in 2 months. Peers Nissan and Honda had 21%-25% output drops in the same month.

More than production. Toyota is also getting mentioned in some interesting BMW news. The German carmaker is creating its hydrogen-powered iX5 using Toyota fuel cells. Vehicles in the pilot fleet have a top speed of over 110 MPH and a 313-mile range on each 4-minute refill.

Fisker says deliveries will begin this spring. The EV maker expects to build about 40K Ocean SUVs this year and already has about 65K reservations. The company's stock jumped 24% following the announcement, and 2022 reports that the company spent less than expected.

Living up to the announcements? To date, the startup has produced just 56 Ocean SUVs.

Tesla's German plant hit 4K cars a week ahead of schedule. Still shy of its eventual 10K vehicles a week goal, the giga-factory is about three weeks ahead of schedule producing about 1/3 the number of Model Ys of the company's Shanghai plant. Shares were up 1.9% before the US market opened following the news.

Keep the hype train rolling. Each week Elon Musk reminds people they are still excited about the Cybertruck release. Last week he revealed the stainless steel-looking body was made with a new "ultra-hard cold-worked steel alloy" that does not require additional corrosion treatment.
