Seventeen States Consider Following California

Love it or hate it, California will ban the sale of new gas-powered vehicles in 2035. Opinions about the decision range from too sudden to too slow. Only time will tell if California's power infrastructure can support the bold decision. 

Ok, review done, now what? Many states already follow CA's lead regarding emissions standards, which surpass federal regulations. Washington, Massachusetts, New York, Oregon, and Vermont are among the seventeen states considering adopting California's 2035 ban. 

Too cold. Warming a car is a larger energy drain for EVs than gas powered vehicles. However, EVs take an additional performance disadvantage in the cold, causing reduced battery range even with the heater turned off. Prompting the Minnesota Auto Dealers Association President Scott Lambert to remind people, "We don't all live in southern California."
