Americans are buying EVs at an ever-increasing pace. While only 5.6% of new car sales from April to June were electric vehicles, they account for twice as much as 2021. While EV sales increased 100%, total new car sales declined 20%.
Lately, supply and demand are locked in an interpretive dance that makes the rest of us feel like we have two left feet. OEMs are producing more electric vehicles, and consumers are spending more and waiting longer to get them. The most immediate question isn't if or when EVs will "phase out" ICE but how to provide the best experience for two diverse sets of consumers in whatever ratio that may appear in the next 1, 5, or 10 years.
