Virginia's State Governor has rejected a Ford EV battery plant due to the OEM's partnership with Chinese battery firm Contemporary Amperex Technology.
Contemporary Amperex Technology is the world's largest producer of the desired batteries, Lithium Iron Phosphate.
Gov. Glenn Youngkin said that while Ford is an iconic American brand, the plant would be a front for the Chinese Communist party, compromising the economic security and personal privacy of Virginians.
Ford has already prepped the land investing about $200M and 15 years but says that the site in question had not been selected for the partnership's plant.
