Working W/ Rivian, Volkswagen, and General Motors

📉 Rivian announced another round of layoffs. The EV maker will cut 6% of jobs to prioritize production. The 2nd round of layoffs in 7 months, company leadership says the 840 layoffs will not affect the Illinois plant, but mostly come from the California offices. 🪖 In terms of the "price war" this is the first reported friendly fire.

💧 VW is taking a pass on hydrogen passenger cars. The German automaker says hydrogen isn't competitive and will instead focus on EV tech for at least the next ten years. The news follows a decline in the brand's total sales for 2022, but increased sales for its EVs. 👍 Nothing wrong with doing what works, Freunds and Freundins.

📺 General Motors has a bunch going on.

  • Record pre-tax earnings for 2022.
  • Dropping salaried max bonuses from 200% to 158%.
  • Removing a $12K cap on hourly employee profit-sharing bonuses.
  • A new partnership with Netflix will have Will Ferrell driving a GM EV in a super bowl ad, featuring zombies and the kids from Stranger Things.

☎️ We called Mary Barra for a comment, but she told us to call Will Ferrell, who told us to call Netflix, but we are not over the password-sharing ban yet.
