Public charging infrastructure for EVs grows each day, with many automakers adding resources and research to the expansion of America's charging network as part of their push to offer electric vehicles in higher numbers within the next 10 years. Existing charging technology is having trouble keeping up as the 3G network is dismantled to make room for the 5G network.
Will it change? Companies like ChargePoint and Blink are working to upgrade the modem hardware in their public charge stations from 3G to 4G, but, with an upgrade of this size unprecedented in the still-emerging field of EV charging stations, a time frame and total cost are still not public knowledge.
The last 3G provider, Verizon, has set a goal of the end of 2022, with other companies taking their 3G offline by mid-year.
Telling it like it is — Billion dollar industries and our grandparents’ flip phones should not be facing the same issue, y’all.
